Woman with porcelain veneersPorcelain veneers are often used for restorative and cosmetic dentistry purposes. Porcelain veneers, sometimes known as dental veneers, are placed on the teeth in order to accomplish a wide variety of dental transformations. They can:

  • straighten teeth
  • get rid of gaps in the smile
  • create evenness by adding length
  • offer long-term whiteness that brightens any smile

Cosmetic dentists often use porcelain veneers as a way to cover up deep long-time stains and other dental flaws that are best fixed by using a porcelain veneer rather than dental bonding.

Though porcelain veneers are similar to a tooth crown, they are not the same as they are much more resilient and natural looking, and only put a new face on an anterior (front of the mouth) tooth, whereas dental crowns cover the entire tooth. They are durable and long-lasting as each porcelain veneer is permanently bonded to the tooth’s natural tooth structure. This means that you are still able to eat and generally live life just as you normally would without any type of interference from the porcelain veneer. In just a couple visits to our West Nyack dental office, our cosmetic dentist, Dr. Mark Dunayer will place them on your teeth and you can go back to your everyday functions in no time. Each dental veneer will look and act like a real tooth! If you live in Rockland County and you’re interested in porcelain veneers, call (845) 627-7645 or email us today!

Am I A Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

While each of us wants to be able to enjoy and show off a bright, white, and straight smile, only some dental patients need to undergo the placement of porcelain veneers. Those patients who require them usually suffer from one or many of the following:

  • Severe wear and tear or decay that cannot be as effectively repaired with other dental treatments
  • Genetics that have caused abnormal spacing which causes large gaps between the teeth
  • Uneven teeth as a result of bruxism or some other condition
  • Worn enamel that is dull and discolored

How Are Porcelain Veneers Placed?

To get porcelain veneers, patients will need to visit Dr. Dunayer’s West Nyack dental office at least two times in order to complete the process. The first part of having them placed will involve thorough examination of your teeth and deciding which type of shape, color, and other porcelain veneer options looks most natural for you. Our Rockland County cosmetic dentist Dr. Dunayer will then prepare your tooth/teeth for the porcelain veneer by reshaping it. Once the tooth is ready for the porcelain veneer, he will make an impression of the tooth/teeth that is to receive the porcelain veneer in a mold that is sent off to a dental lab that will create your permanent porcelain dental veneer. You will be fitted with temporary dental veneers until your permanent porcelain veneers are ready to be placed. Then, when you come back to Dr. Dunayer’s dental office the second time, about two weeks later, your permanent ones will be placed and sealed using a very strong bond. The porcelain veneers are meant to stay on your teeth forever so the sealant used is very durable and long-lasting.
